Rolling into 2025 after having had a busy period with much travelling and events.
We wrapped up the first ever Bitcoin UX Bootcamp in Kenya. Walking away filled with many fond memories. The final wrap up presentation included having all of the developers of 5 different Bitcoin products in one room together with the participants of the bootcamp. The participants of the bootcamp then presented their results from the usability testing. The results revealed the areas in the application that caused the most friction as well as recommendations on how to improve these.
The structure of the bootcamp is designed in a way to empower participants to learn by doing. They move through 5 phases which is condensed into 2 days. Part of the learning process is done outside of the bootcamp that being the foundation + design. These parts, parts 1 and 5 are done in public in the Bitcoin Design Community.
We learn UX design by doing, first diving deep into the problem space and then redesigning solutions based on that. They are made familiar with the problem space by first analyzing the app itself and then testing the app with people at the conference. Once we have made those observations our minds are deep in the understanding what users want and what friction points exist there. Then we feed this knowledge back to developers and also back to the ecosystem. Feel free to read the full summary here. Videos to be added soon!
Also explored what the pathway would look like for a UX designer entering into the Bitcoin ecosystem and tallying that up with the existing resources in the Bitcoin Design Community and exploring what that pathway would look like.
Next to that have also been head down organising the second UX Bootcamp which will be held prior to BTC++ in Florianopolis. So there is much organizing going on in the background and a bunch of collaboration too. Lucas (Vinteum) and Dulce (Librería de Satoshi) and Kaka and Carol (Area Bitcoin) all have been great to collaborate with and very grateful to have their support. Not to mention Stephen de Lorme as well who is going to join in on the days and help mentor.
And so the last month have had a singular focus of the education initiative and so next week looking forward to diving back into the Discord of the Bitcoin Design Community and catching up on the many conversations.
Lessons learnt:
Next will share snippets of lessons learnt over the last month as well as the name of the person I learnt those lessons from:
Collaborate, stay humble and be curious - Christoph Ono
Build slowly and thoughtfully - Daniel Nordh
Step away from the desk and use pen and paper to explore ideas/creativity. - Christoph Ono
Observe, learn and iterate - Jack Dorsey
Keep on building and see you in the Bitcoin Design Community next week!
