Last week was spent at a great conference in Berlin learning from other Open Source builders what they are working on. At FOSS Backstage, there were some fun workshops. One that stands out is the LARP where we each got roles and some of us were projects looking for funding while others were sponsors. We got to write proposals and pitch our ideas.
Some interesting talks as well about:
Who Funds FOSS Foundations?
The secret lives of designers in OSS
The secret lives of designers was a good one to learn about the research that Eriol and Nimisha did about the diary studies of designers contributing to OSS. Here’s the research study.
A nice one too was the accessibility stand they had there to build empathy for people with disabilities and show how to test for accessibility.
Was also super nice to meet and catch up with Christoph live there in person. We work together closely but 100% remote so its always nice to meet in real life when the opportunity arises.
Spent this week mostly on foundation stuff and community. The community call was great where we are looking to do some organization around BTC Prague as well as one around Global Accessibility awareness day.
Also spent some time further fleshing out the Bitcoin Core App case study, hope to get some nice stories in there from the devs and designers and give it a nice human feel to it as it’s an important project for the ecosystem and has been built 100% in public.
Another highlight of this week is that the Bitcoin Design Foundation gave out its first grant to Erik. Eriks already been doing such great work around eNuts and Cashu so its going to be a pleasure observing his work as we all learn more about that area.
That’s a wrap.
✌🏽See you in the Bitcoin Design Community.
As always my Discord “door” is always open.
